Craft Definitions

Asbestos Workers/Insulators:

This occupation includes the removal of all and weather or vapor barriers of asbestos-related materials. The fabrication and installation of insulating materials on tanks, boilers, turbines, pumps, pipes, valves, ducts and other structures, including HVAC systems, to reduce heat loss of absorption, prevent moisture condensation, protect insulation material or reduce sound levels.

Boilermakers:

This occupation includes the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of all types of boilers, tanks, vessels, water towers, heaters, furnaces, etc.; found in the industrial, ship building and railroad industries.

International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers

Bricklayers/Stonemasons/Tile & Terrazzo Workers:

These occupations include the construction, application, and maintenance of all types of masonry structures of brick, block, stone, firebrick, and similar materials, including the application of structural and/or glazed tile walls, ceilings, terrazzo, and tiled floor.

Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons

Cement Masons:

This occupation includes the application and/or repair of ally types of cement and concrete surfaces and structures.

Plasterers:

This occupation includes the application and repairs of finishing plaster surfaces of interior walls and ceilings and exterior stucco walls in the construction industry.

Electricians:

This occupation includes the manufacturing, maintenance, and installation of electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls, equipment, and HVAC systems, including low voltage, in industrial, institutional, commercial, and residential buildings.

International Union of Elevator Constructors

Elevator Constructors:

This occupation includes the installation and maintenance of all types of elevator systems, dumbwaiters, leveling ramps, hydraulic stages, and escalators.

Floor layers:

This occupation includes the installation and repair of all types of carpet, linoleum, and soft tile flooring.

Glaziers:

This occupation includes the installation and repair of all types of glass and like material, including metal framing systems, storefronts, shower enclosures, mirrors, etc., in commercial and residential structures.

Painters:

This occupation includes the application of all types of coating materials, including paints, varnish, lacquer, shellac, epoxy resin and Teflon on all types of construction surfaces.  Included in this trade is sandblasting, wall coverings and the taping and floating and preparation of dry walls prior to painting.

Iron Workers:

This occupation includes the fabrication, installation, and repair of all types of steel framework on buildings, bridges and other structures and equipment; iron grilles, gratings, stairways, enclosures and other ornamental ironwork and framing systems, including the cutting, drilling fastening members together by bolting, riveting, welding, etc.

Laborers:

This occupation includes the performance of skilled and unskilled manual duties in all phases of construction work, including cleanup of construction sites and assisting other skilled crafts in their duties. (However, laborers do not perform the work of skilled craftworkers included herein.)

Operating Engineers:

This occupation includes the operating of both light and heavy construction equipment on all job-sites, including but not limited to; air compressors, power cranes of all types, backhoes, operated shovels, trenching machines, winch trucks, etc.

Pipe Fitters:

This occupation includes the installation, maintenance, and repair of high-temperature water and high-pressure piping systems such as hydraulic, nitrogen, oxygen, steam heating, and steam-generating systems.  Also included is pipe welding, as well as, pipe fitting work associated with HVAC systems.

Plumbers:

This occupation includes the installation, modification, and repair of utility, supply, and disposal systems, fixtures, fittings and equipment such as sewage, water, gas, and oil lines, compressed air, vacuum and acid systems, water closets, water heaters, hydrants, valves, and pumps.

Road Sprinkler Fitters:

This occupation includes the assembly, installation, and repairs on pipes, fittings, and fixtures in sprinkler systems for fire prevention.  Also performs other related duties.

Roofers:

This occupation includes the installation, maintenance, repair and waterproofing of all types of construction roofs.

Sheet Metal Workers:

This occupation includes the fabrication, modification, repair, assembly, and installation of all sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies.  These metals include but are not limited to galvanized and black iron, aluminum and aluminum alloys, stainless steel, copper and brass sheets, lead alloy and bronze.  Also included is sheet metal work associated with HVAC systems.

Teamsters:

This occupation includes the operation of all types of powered vehicles, some of which may be equipped with special purpose powered equipment.  The vehicles are used within or between government installations, commercial and industrial facilities, or over public roads.  They may be used to haul cargo or passengers or to tow equipment.  This craft is also used for checking receiving materials and warehousing on industrial construction sites.
